Parkside School

Sixth Form

Sixth Form

We are a well-established, strong 6th Form.

We are an inclusive part of the school, providing a natural transition from KS4 into KS5.

Students achieve well from their starting points and are guided to make choices which often combine traditional academic courses, with vocational programmes.

We offer comprehensive support to students both inside and outside of the classroom, and the culture of peer to peer support has been praised in our most recent Ofsted report.

This past year we have seen an increase in our average point score, with students achieving an average grade of a B-.

100% of our students achieved a place at university (many of which were Russell Group Universities), with the majority securing their first choice of course.

Akidemy

We have a new and exciting partnership between Soccer Akidemy and Parkside School which enables us to deliver, in partnership, a football scholarship programme to selected sixth form students.

This year has seen students join our 6th form studying a variety of A-Levels and vocational courses.

The PE department are now offering BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport worth 3 A-levels, to run alongside our current offer of BTEC Extended Certificate in Sport. Students who successful apply and are recruited to the scholarship programme can study a range of academic and/or vocational qualifications whilst at the same time being involved in an intensive, thorough, and well-structured football scholarship training programme which takes place at Bradford College and Parkside School.

We also offer lots of exciting enrichment opportunities, with the addition of Wednesday afternoon football this year, where we have entered the 6th form team into various local and National competitions. We are delighted to be working alongside Danny Cadamarteri and The Soccer Akidemy coaches and look forward to a long and successful partnership.

Students wanting to join the 23-24 cohort have to meet both sixth form and football scholarship entry requirements.

16-19 Tuition Fund

The government has provided a small amount of additional funding to support small group tuition for post 16 students who have not previously achieved grade 5 or above in GCSE English and Maths.

The school plans to use this funding to support the following programmes:

  • Access to small group tutoring in English and Maths.
  • Additional resources specified by classroom teacher to aid students in English/Maths studies

We will continue to monitor the progress of our students.

16-19 Bursary Fund and Free School Meals Scheme

The 16-19 Bursary Fund & Free School meals scheme provides financial support to help some students in their learning. Schools are responsible for awarding bursaries to students, deciding the amounts, dates of payment and setting conditions that students should meet in order to receive payment.

Please note that the information below may be subject to change following guidance from the Education Funding Agency. Any changes will be updated on our website.

The Bursary Scheme is made up of two parts:

1. A payment of £1,200 to a small group of the most vulnerable students who will fall into one of the following

categories:

  • Young people who are, or have recently been looked after children in the care of the Local Authority or foster parents
  • Young people who receive Income Support or Universal Credit in their own name
  • Disabled young people in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and either Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment in their own name.

2. Weekly discretionary payments awarded to students with successful applications. Applications will only be successful if students are in receipt of free school meals OR if their total household income is £21,000 or below, including Tax Credits, and the student provides sufficient indication of how the funds are to be spent.

If you think you are eligible for 16-19 Bursary Funding, and wish to apply, application forms are available from the school’s Finance Office at the start of the Academic Year. The deadline for applications to be returned is usually by the second Friday, in the month of October. This date is published on the application form.

Applications after this date will be considered but payments will not be backdated to 1 September.
