Our Careers Programme
Parkside believes that excellent CEIAG connects learning by preparing pupils for future success in education, employment or training. It motivates young people by giving them high quality careers guidance of the routes to jobs and careers that they will find engaging and rewarding.
Excellent CEIAG widens pupils’ horizons, challenges stereotypes and raises aspirations. It provides pupils with the knowledge and skills necessary to make successful transitions to the next stage of their life, in becoming well rounded young people. All pupils will receive unbiased information about the potential next steps, whilst receiving good quality, meaning opportunities to encounter the world of work.
Our ASPIRE2b programme encapsulates these beliefs and subsequently has a huge impact on preparing our students for the world of work. It entails 3 core strands:
Pupil progress through curriculum excellence
Our focussed delivery within curriculum subject areas ensures students are aware of the subject related pathways available to them, along with the opportunity to identify how they have and are developing their employability skills. This is managed by a designated CEIAG faculty lead. Every half term, each faculty includes jobs and employability skills for every topic covered. Established links with STEM partners result in successful STEM competition entries and awards and participation in innovative and ground- breaking programmes such as becoming a pilot school for SpaceX with Futuretransformation. Business partners support the classroom learning through bespoke sessions, such as Burberry within MFL, Solenis within science and local entrepreneurs such as Yorkshire Dama Cheese within food tech.
Extra-curricular enrichment
All of our students are able to fully develop themselves through a range of extracurricular enrichment opportunities. From undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, representing the school locally, regionally and nationally in a range of sports teams, to participating in charity work within the local community and developing leadership skills through the student house and leadership teams.
Careers, Information, Advice and Guidance programme
All students receive a progressive, structured programme through their PSHCE and form tutor programme, as well as special events including sector-specific workshops, enterprise activities, careers guidance interviews and career enhancement weeks. These include visits to the workplace, CV writing sessions and 1-2-1 interviews with local employers. This is supported by key partnerships with training providers, Higher Education institutions such as the University of Huddersfield and Bradford College, to ensure all of our students have a clear understanding of all pathways available to them.
An Aspire2b PRIDE Pathway has been developed for each year group.
