Eleven aspirational year 11 students braved the wind and rain to attend the 'how to get in to the best universities' Pixl conference in Leeds on Monday 27th Feb. Peter Rawlings from Pixl6 led the three hour session, in association with Oxford and Cambridge Universities in advising students on how to prepare themselves for Higher Education. Among the tips he shared were:
Getting as much work experience as possible in your chosen field
Creating a portfolio of achievement and updating it every month.
Researching the qualifications needed for the degrees of your choice and making relevant A level choices.
For entry into the Russell Group Universities, choosing 2 facilitating subjects where relevant to the degree of your choice.
Making your own decision. Deciding if university is the way or a higher level apprenticeship.
Completing reading/research into your area of interest and look out for relevant Moocs.
Whilst the session was long, the students said they were able to use the information, along with guidance from professionals at school to keep them focused on success in the summer and post 16.
