The first of the Mathematics GCSE examinations is almost upon us. Next Thursday 26 May, is Paper 1 – the non-calculator paper. In preparation for this and in addition to the work being undertaken in class, the Mathematics faculty are offering the following sessions:
· Monday 23/5/15 – general revision and past paper practice 3 => 4pm in FB5.
· Tuesday 24/5/16 – Maths ‘examination ready’ preparation session – in the theatre – this session will include important examiners tips plus hints and advice for examination technique. This session will run from 3 => 3:45pm, after which the Maths team will be available for further revision and past paper practice until 4:30pm.
· Wednesday 25/5/16 – Maths revision and examination practice 3 => 4:30pm.
· Thursday 26/5/16 – Paper 1 revision in FB5 7 => 8:30am.
In all of the above sessions the Maths staff at Parkside will be available to help pupils with any Maths problems that they may have encountered during their independent preparation, or simply to practice the skills needed in preparation for their exam.
This Saturday 21/5/16 also sees the final of our ‘Mathematics Saturday School’ sessions for this year for the pupils who have signed up to attend. This again provides students with a valuable opportunity to seek help with any specific questions or aspects of the subject which they may be having difficulty with.
Please find attached a copy of this weeks targeted questions for Mathematics revision along with examiners tips and solutions. Questions 1-5, 7 and 9-12 are suitable for all students to practice with. Questions 6, 8, 13, 14 & 15 are aimed at pupils entered for the Higher paper.
If your child has any difficulties with understanding any of the questions, please remind them that we are here to help and Maths support is available before school, at break and lunchtime and after school every day in FB5.
Once again, we would like to thank you in anticipation of your support. If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact myself or your child's Mathematics teacher.
