Bradford Schools Athletics Championships
Over 50 students travelled to Cleckheaton to represent Parkside. A tremendous day of competition saw 19 of our students gain top 3 places in their finals with five of them gaining selection for Bradford. These students were Arianna Zenti (Long Jump), Heather Littler (200m and High Jump), Jessica Mayho (High Jump), Reece Brammah (100m and Long Jump) and George Whitaker (800m).
West Yorkshire Schools Athletics Championships
Our students met a higher level of competition at this event but rose well to the challenge.
Heather – 4th in HJ and 5th in 200m
Jessica – 5th in HJ
Reece – 2nd in 100m and 4th in LJ
George – 8th in 800m
English Schools Cup – Preliminary Round
Our Junior Girls and Boys (Years 7 & 8) travelled to Thornes Park, Wakefield to compete in the preliminary round of this prestigious competition, against schools from all over West Yorkshire. An exciting day of competition culminated in the girls gaining victory by 17 points from Holmfirth School with the boys in 4th place. This gave the girls automatic qualification into the ‘A’ Regional Final to be held in Derby.
English Schools Cup – Regional Round
The Junior Girls experienced a much higher level of competition when they travelled to Derby for this event. Other, similarly successful schools from the North and the Midlands were out in force and we knew we were in for a tough day of competition. However, the girls rose to the occasion magnificently with many setting new personal best standards in their event - Imogen Talbot being the outright winner in the javelin with a throw of over 21metres. At the end of a thrilling day of team competition Parkside finished in 6th place overall – a real credit to all the girls who took part. Other team members were Amy George, Georgina Wilson, Hollie Windle, Olivia McCulloch, Arianna Zenti, Annie Roberts, Mary Jane Sollitt, Jennifer Bonson, Hazel Cooper, Lucy Canning, and Emma Kitt. Reserve – Louisa Maccleston.
Keighley and Craven Athletics League – Greenhead, Keighley
This was the first of 2 competitions against other schools in the area – Bingley GS, Ilkley GS, Holy Family, Greenhead, Aireville, Oakbank, Skipton Girls and South Craven.
Parkside students continue to perform well with many excellent individual performances. This augured well for the team competition, which our year 7/8 girls won from Ilkley GS by 5 points. The year 9/10 girls shared their victory with Ilkley, while the 7/8 boys finished in 4th and the 9/10 boys in 5th – but only 3 points behind 2nd place. The second match should prove to be an exciting finale.
