Sport (Coaching and Fitness)
Course Description
The BTEC level 3 National Award is a six unit qualification equivalent to one full A level. Candidates must complete four mandatory units and two optional units from a bank
of 8.
Course Content
Core Units (all four units must be taken)
Unit 1 The Body in Action
Unit 2 Health and Safety in Sport
Unit 3 Training and Fitness for Sport
Unit 6 Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
Specialist units (two units must be taken, these will de decided by school depending on circumstances)
Unit 4 Sports Coaching
Unit 5 Sports Development
Unit 7 Practical Team Sports
Unit 8 Practical Individual Sports
Unit 11 Sport and Society
Unit 12 Leadership in Sport
Unit 13 Exercise, Health and Lifestyle
Unit 23 Working with Children in Sport

These are centre-assessed qualifications (all coursework, no exam involved) and are externally moderated by a BTEC visiting moderator. Parkside is one of a few centres approved to offer these qualifications at the current time.

General Comments
This qualification will allow access, as an operative, to sports coaching, gym/fitness instruction, sport development, sports administration or youth work.
Candidates who achieve this qualification can progress to a variety of HND or degree level courses in sport and sport related subjects. This qualification allows candidates to accumulate full UCAS points equivalent to 120 for a 6 unit award.
