| Course Description |
|
Psychology is a Social Science; concerned with the way people behave and think, how they react to different situations and interact with others. The course will address the following branches of psychology:
- Cognitive Psychology: mental activities such as remembering;
- Developmental Psychology: how people develop, throughout their lives from infancy to old age;
- Physiological Psychology: how the brain and nervous system operate and how our experience can be affected by physiological processes and mechanisations;
- Individual differences: what makes people different from one another;
- Social Psychology: how people interact with one another, and also how they come to make sense of what’s going on in their social worlds;
Psychology is an exciting and unique subject and ideal for those fascinated by our own social interactions and by the behaviour of others. It is a useful qualification for anyone working with the public (education, hospitals, police, prisons).

Unit 2: Biological Psychology, Social Psychology and individual differences
A Level:
Unit 3: Topics in Psychology : Biolog rhythms and sleep, Agression and Eating Behaviour
Unit 4: Psychotherapy : Psychology Action and research Methods

| General Comments |
Psychology is an academic subject and requires an analytical mind, the ability to work with statistics and to complete individual research. Therefore you need at least five GCSE passes A*-C, including Maths and English. If you want to gain an insight into how the human mind works and human behaviour; Psychology is the right option. This subject allows you to develop the essential analytical and thinking skills that will enhance and enrich any other subjects studied at A level or Degree level. If you want to be challenged and study an interesting and different subject, Psychology is the subject for you.
