Course Description
Do you have a passion for photography? Are you gripped by the power of photographs? AS/A2 level Photography will give you the knowledge to use SLR cameras and digital cameras in an informed manner utilising many different techniques. You will use a dark room to develop films and print black and white photographs. You will study photographers work from different times and genres exploring their concepts and techniques. Their work will be instrumental in the development of your own ideas.
AS will equip you with solid and diverse skills in the techniques of photography giving you the ability to realise your intentions. A2 will give you the opportunity to utilise your skills and produce an indepth body of work exploring your own ideas. You will also produce a written assignment of 1000 words investigating a theme of your own choice within photography.
You will need to be extremely proactive, reliable and independent as a lot of this course will be taught outside of the classroom. It is useful to have studied G.C.S.E. Art or Photography but is not an entry requirement. It is important that you have experience, and most importantly, a love of taking photographs. We visit London at the end of Year 12 to visit galleries. While it is not essential to own your own digital S.L.R. camera it would be extremely beneficial.
On completion of A level Photography students can progress to university or into the vast industry of Photography.
If you have any further questions talk to myself, Miss Warnes, in the photography room.

General Comments
The Art and Design Photography course requires you to explore photographers and techniques and present your findings and ideas through written and practical work. While it is not essential to have completed GCSE Photography , GCSE Art would provide a firm ground. Students will be considered who have done neither on presentation of a body of photography work. The art and Design Photography course prepares you for many vocational opportunities and also provides you access to a variety of degree courses.
