Music Technology
Course Description
The AS and the A level courses in Music Technology are designed to develop understanding of how music is arranged, recorded and produced. You will produce performances using sequencing software in a range of musical styles; develop the skills required to make high quality recordings of musical performances; learn how to compose and arrange using technology; develop your knowledge of the techniques used in the recording studio and study the development of popular music from the early days of the 20th century to the present day.
Students will have to create an accomplished sequenced performance of two pieces: an orchestral classical piece and a pop song. The sequences could be a section of a classical chamber work, symphony, concerto, and of course a fully realised performance of part of a pop song. The structured commentary is an exam based on the two pieces you have sequenced.
Students will also have to arrange two pieces of music of your choice. One of them has to be sequenced. The other is an original version of a pop song.

Throughout the course you will listen to a variety of popular music from the early 20th century to the present day and answer questions on the development of popular music and the music technology that influenced it.
