Course Description
The Mathematics course consists of 3 modules in Year 12 followed by 3 more in Year 13, for those students wishing to obtain the A level qualification. The AS qualification involves studying 2 modules of Pure Mathematics which will include algebra, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, sequences and calculus. For the third module students will study statistics. To complete the A level qualification students will study two additional Pure Mathematics modules and then have the opportunity to build on Year 12 work or try out another area of study. The course is designed to encourage the appropriate use of graphic calculators and computers as tools by which the teaching and learning of Mathematics may be enhanced.

General Comments
The Mathematics course requires sound understanding of previous work, so students who have not followed the GCSE Higher course, obtaining at least a grade B, will not be considered for AS Level Mathematics and a higher grade would be preferable. The course will support work in other subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economics and Psychology.
