History
Course Description
AS/A Level History – Sometimes it’s hard to believe, sometimes it’s horrifying, it can be stranger than fiction but history is about what people did in the past and unravelling their motives. The jewel in the crown of studying history at this level is becoming immersed in a period and not wanting to wait to find out what happened next.
History teaches the student to think for themselves and analyse the stories of the past and inform their judgements of the present. The exciting History course deals with a range of views in significant events and individuals, the diversity of society in three different periods in three different countries. Over the two years you will have the best creative vehicle – history; to question the good, the great and the ordinary and ask; did they help or were they evil?

General Comments
Students should ideally achieve a C or above in both History and English at GCSE (however although it is preferable to have studied GCSE history it is not essential.)

AS and A2 History would enhance any future career path and in particular work in law, journalism, business, archaeology, teaching and many other areas.
The most important attribute is a willingness and interest in the subject. It is an academic qualification that is widely respected by University tutors and employers alike.
