| Course Description |
| The new French AS level is an exciting new course aimed at immersing students in contemporary French Society, language and culture. It develops the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing acquired at GCSE Higher tier, through the more adult topics of the Media, Popular Culture, Lifestyles and Relationships.
At A2, the topics recognise the increasing maturity of students and tackle ‘meaty’ issues such as multi-cultural society, the environment and social issues. Students also have the choice of studying either a period of history, a region or country plus a famous French cultural figure in greater depth, as part of their cultural topic.
As well as a good GCSE grade (a high C or above) in French, students need to have a genuine interest in all things to do with France and French speaking countries, and a willingness to express their opinions in the target language. Students can progress on to the A2 course if they gain a ‘D’ or above at AS.

| General Comments |

‘A’ level French students typically go on to do French at university, find work with tour companies and airlines, or within the fields of international business, law and teaching.
A level French graduate, Joanne Stanworth, (class of 2006) gained a grade C at A level and went on to study Spanish and French at Edinburgh University. She is now in her second year and is looking forward to her year abroad in Paris and Alicante. Joanne described her French A level as giving her an excellent grounding for degree level French and hopes to go on to work as a translator for a multinational company.
Speak to either Mrs Craven (Head of MFL) or Mrs Haddani (Head of Post 16) for further information about the course.
