English Language
Course Description
English Language A Level aims to develop an awareness of the power of language and how it influences our day to day lives. It encourages students to take an interest in the world around them and become more conscious of how we all use language to communicate who we are and what we want.

The AS course introduces students to a variety of concepts and frameworks for the study of language and enables them to apply these to investigate their own and others’ use of speech and writing. The AS course should develop candidates’ skills in speaking and writing for different purposes and enable them to respond perceptively to the different varieties of English that they hear and read.

At A2 level students develop further their ability to apply their linguistic knowledge to a wide variety of texts from both past and present. The A2 course aims to refine and sharpen the skills gained at AS through independent investigation and research.

English Language A Level equips students to use language more effectively in all kinds of situations. An understanding and appreciation of language is useful and relavent in a wide variety of careers and academic courses.
