Travel and Tourism OCR Nationals

What will I study at Key stage 4?

The OCR level 2 National Certificate in Travel and Tourism is equivalent to 4 GCSE’s at Grade C or above. This qualification aims to:
1. Develop your knowledge and understanding of the travel and tourism industries
2. Develop your knowledge, understanding and skills in contexts that are directly relevant to employment situations, thereby enhancing your employability within the travel and tourism industry
3. Develop your ability to work effectively in travel and tourism
4. Enable you to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills of travel and tourism principles and the practicalities of providing travel and tourism services to others
5. Encourage progression by assisting in the development of knowledge, understanding and skills that you will need to access further education opportunities or occupational training on a full time or part time basis
6. Promote interaction between employers, centres and candidates by relating teaching and assessment to real settings

Unit 1 Exploring travel and tourism
Unit 2 Dealing with customers in travel and tourism
Unit 3 Investigating tourist destinations
Unit 4 Promoting travel and tourism
Optional Units

Unit 5 Investigating visitor attractions
Unit 6 Investigating package holidays (tour operations)
Unit 7 Investigating travel agency operations
Unit 8 Exploring hospitality in travel and tourism
Unit 9 Planning and running a travel and tourism event
Unit 10 Using technology and the Internet for travel and tourism
Unit 11 The effects of travel and tourism on a community
Unit 12 Exploring travel and tourism in a region of the UK
Unit 13 Investigating airports and airlines
Unit 14 Introduction to career planning for travel and tourism
Unit 15 Work experience in travel and tourism

To achieve this qualification you must complete six units and provide evidence that you have met the assessment objectives described in each unit. The six units consist of the four mandatory units listed above and a further two units chosen from the optional units. Only one of Units 14 or 15 may count towards a full award.
