OCR Entry Level Science (Science Plus)

What will I study at Key stage 4?

This course is specifically designed to meet the needs and to motivate students for whom GCSE Science is not appropriate.

It consists of a mixture of short Biology, Chemistry and Physics topics.

What assessments will I do?

You are given a record card which is updated regularly.  Certificates are awarded regularly at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, based on the continuous assessment of the topics.  This includes short tasks and simple Data Analysis.  The course consists of a mixture of short Biology, Chemistry and Physics topics.

Why do I have to do Science?

Science is a compulsory subject at Key Stage 4, but that is not the only reason why you have to take it.  During the two years studying Science you will cover many interesting topics and develop many skills that you will need to use in all sorts of situations throughout your life.  Many of these skills are also transferable to the other subjects that you will be studying.

What courses or employment can I progress to at the end of my course?

Students who are successful at Science Plus could progress on to a level 2 Science course at Post-16, such as the OCR National Award in Science which would be equivalent to two GCSEs.

The range of jobs requiring Science qualifications is huge – speak to your Science teacher or look at the displays around the department.  Remember scientists don’t just wear white coats and work in laboratories!
