OCR 21st Century Science Triple Award

What will I study at Key stage 4?

This course is made up of three separate GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. It is designed for the most able students who have gained at least a Level Six in their SATs.

The aim of the course is to encourage you to learn specific knowledge and develop the skills needed to apply this knowledge to new and changing situations in a range of domestic, industrial and environmental contexts. You will also gain an understanding of: what scientists do, how scientists develop theories and explanations and how Science can benefit humanity.

You will study a wide range of topics in each subject including:

    Biology

    Chemistry

    Physics

    You and Your Genes

    Air Quality

What assessments will I do?

The first three topics for each subject area are examined at the end of Year 10, and the rest at the end of Year 11.

For the coursework element of each subject, you have to carry out data analysis of an experiment that you have carried out and write a report based on a detailed study of a scientific topic This could be looking at what killed off the Dinosaurs or investigating the potential health risks of using mobile phones.

Why do I have to take Science?

Science is a compulsory subject at Key Stage 4, but that is not the only reason why you have to take it. During the two years studying Science you will cover many interesting topics and develop many skills that you will need to use in all sorts of situations throughout your life. Many of these skills are also transferable to the other subjects that you will be studying.
